"Meet Korea 2025": Connecting cooperation between Northern localities with Korean partners and businesses

On May 14, in Hung Yen province, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with Hung Yen province and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam to organize the "Meet Korea 2025" conference. The conference aims to discuss measures on trade, industry, science and technology cooperation, digital transformation between Vietnam and Korea, and promote cooperation between localities in the Northern region with Korean partners and businesses.
 
Attending the conference were Comrade Bui Thanh Son, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Choi Youngsam, The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam; representatives of leaders from 21 provinces and cities in the Northern region and nearly 200 enterprises and investors from Korea; Representative of Gia Dinh Group. Comrade Duong Xuan Huyen, Permanent Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee, participated in the discussion at the conference.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son delivered the opening speech at the conference.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that the "Meeting Korea 2025" conference is significant, marking the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam - Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA), and the 10th anniversary of organizing this meaningful series of events in Vietnam.
 
The relationship between Vietnam and Korea has made great strides, becoming a comprehensive strategic partner since 2022. To date, Korea is the largest direct investor in Vietnam with 10,128 projects and a total registered capital of over 92 billion USD. Korea also ranks second in development cooperation (ODA), labor and tourism, and third in trade with Vietnam. In the opposite direction, Vietnam is Korea's largest economic partner in ASEAN, accounting for 30% of total investment and 50% of trade turnover between Korea and the region. The two countries are also aiming to increase bilateral trade turnover to 100 billion USD by 2025 and 150 billion USD by 2030, in a balanced and sustainable manner.
 
In 2025, Vietnam's strategic goal is to achieve 8% growth, creating momentum, force, position, and rhythm to achieve double-digit growth in the following years; by 2030, to become a developing country with modern industry and high average income; by 2045, to become a developed country with high income.
 
In order to achieve these goals, Vietnam is focusing on drastically and synchronously implementing many groups of solutions, promoting strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, and human resources, in the spirit of "open institutions, transparent infrastructure, smart governance and human resources" to reduce costs, increase the competitiveness of goods, and create favorable conditions for businesses.
 
Within the framework of the conference, representatives of provinces, cities and Vietnamese - Korean enterprises participated in seminars, shared and discussed investment opportunities, introduced potentials, strengths and policies to support investors to promote investment attraction, helping Korean enterprises to feel more confident in expanding production and developing business in Vietnam.
 
Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Permanent Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee, has outlined the potentials and strengths of Lang Son in socio-economic development. Currently, in addition to developing border economic zones, Lang Son province is focusing on developing investment in industrial clusters and parks in the province.

The Permanent Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee has affirmed that the province always wishes to invite and collaborate with cooperations in various fields to invest in the province, in which the province is also very interested  in collaborating with Korean corporations, especially in border economic zones and industrial parks and clusters of the province. Lang Son province is committed to always accompanying investors, creating the most favorable conditions for investors throughout the process of implementing investment, production and business activities in the area.

In order to attract investment, along with the preferential policies of the State, Lang Son province also issued many preferential policies of the province to support investors in the province such as: preferential tax rates, corporate income tax; preferential land rent; support for investment in infrastructure construction; support labor training for each project... At the same time, the province is also conducting further research to issue a number of separate incentive policies for each investor when investing in each field in the province.

For industrial clusters and parks that have been approved for investment, Lang Son province is directing relevant departments, branches, People's Committees of districts with industrial clusters and parks in the area... to focus on implementing drastic measures to speed up the progress of land handover to investors, especially at VSIP Lang Son Industrial Park project and Ho Son 1 Industrial Cluster project.

Speaking at the end of the Conference, Deputy Foreign Minister Ngo Le Van assessed that Meet Korea 2025 was a great success with many highlights, being a large-scale inter-regional international connection conference. 

At the same time, thanks to the similarities and sharing of culture, political stability and strong reform of administrative procedures, it is an advantage for Korean investors to choose Vietnam as a place to work, stay long-term, and together create new breakthrough developments.

Within the framework of the event "Meet Korea 2025", the Organizing Committee has awarded many scholarships; signed a cooperation agreement; organized discussion sessions with the following topics: Promoting Vietnam - Korea trade and investment in the new era; promoting cooperation in developing high-tech industries.

In addition, the Organizing Committee also organized meetings between the Ambassador, Deputy Ambassador of Korea and local leaders of Vietnam; connecting the governments and businesses of the two countries.
